By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The construction works are undertaken to build a scientific-research space for viticulture and grape products in Georgia, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

As reported, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili got acquainted with the ongoing construction activities, which will be completed at the demonstrative base of perennial crops in village Jighaura, Mtskheta Municipality, the Scientific-Research Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture by the end of the year.

The laboratory, tasting areas, a museum of wine, a cellar and a conference hall will be arranged at the center.

The demonstration base of perennial crops will be located on 80 hectares in the village Jighaura. Some 450 Georgian and 350 foreign wine varieties are preserved at the center, including a collection of unique and rare varieties of Georgian wines.

"In 2016, a unique wine collection was created in Georgia, which preserves the Georgian gene pool of Georgian wines handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture through funding of Agro Kartu Bank. Our country is in urgent need of a modern institute, which will be equipped with the state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. Therefore, we decided to build a scientific-research space for viticulture and grape products. It should be noted, that despite the restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, construction works have been underway according to the plan and I believe, that construction will come to an end by the end of the year,” Davitashvili said.
