Uzbekistan becomes largest importer of Russia's sugar

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12

Uzbekistan became the largest importer of Russian sugar in the period from January through May 2020, Trend reports citing the Russian Exporters Association.

Exports of Russian sugar in the period from January through May 2020 increased 13 times (to 619,000 tons) in volume and 10 times - in value (to $245 million) compared to the same period in 2019.

“Uzbekistan became the largest importer of Russian sugar in volume, having purchased 165,000 tons in the period from January through May. The second place was taken by Azerbaijan, which increased its imports to 99,000 tons. Kazakhstan is in third place, with 96,000 tons. Other top importers include Tajikistan (63,000 tons) and Turkmenistan (39,000 tons),” the message said.

In the period from August 2019 (beginning of the agricultural year) through February 2020, Russian sugar was supplied to Uzbekistan (118,400 tons), Kazakhstan (82,500 tons), Tajikistan (78,900 tons), Azerbaijan (73,700 tons) and Ukraine (48,600 tons), and exports to mentioned countries made 79.7 percent of total exports.
