Rouhani: production increases in Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 13

By Elnur Baghishov-Trend:

The production in Iran has increased by 10-12 percent over the past two months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through May 20, 2020), said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at a meeting of the Iran's National Committee on Combating Coronavirus on June 13, Trend reports citing IRINN.

Rouhani expressed confidence that the growth will also continue in the third month (starting from May 21).

The head of state added that the growth has been mainly observed in industry, agriculture and services sector.

The president said that for obvious reasons, the situation is slightly different in the areas such as tourism and air transport which have been affected by coronavirus pandemic.

"During the spread of the coronavirus, Iran faced major problems in the export of non-oil products, because almost all borders were closed," he said.

Rouhani added that over the past two weeks, Iran's borders with its neighbors have opened and non-oil exports have increased.

As was reported earlier, Iran's non-oil exports increased by 60 percent in terms of value and 71 percent in terms of weight in the second month of the current Iranian year (April 20 - May 20, 2020), compared to the first month (March 20-April 19, 2020).

Iran continues to monitor the coronavirus situation in the country. According to recent reports from the Iranian officials, over 182,500 people have been infected 8,659 people have already died. Meanwhile, over 144,600 have reportedly recovered from the disease.

The country continues to apply strict measures to contain the further spread. Reportedly, the disease was brought to Iran by a businessman from Iran's Qom city, who went on a business trip to China, despite official warnings. The man died later from the disease.
