Top import commodities of Georgia include motor cars

Copper ores and concentrates reclaimed the first place in the list of top export items in Georgia from January through May, equaling $258.1 million or 20.9 percent of total exports, Trend reports with reference to National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat)

The exports of motor cars totaled $148.9 million and their share in the total exports amounted to 12 percent. The ferroalloys' exports occupied the third place standing at $109.2 million and constituting 8.8 percent of the total exports.

The top import commodities in January-May 2020 were motor cars whose imports equaled $222.8 million (7.5 percent of the total imports).

The copper ores and concentrates followed in the list with $199.1 million or 6.7 percent of imports. The petroleum and petroleum oils were third in the top import commodity list with $195.6 million (6.6 percent of imports).

The external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $4.20 billion from January through May 2020, 16.8 percent lower to the same period of 2019. As reported, the exports equaled $1.23 billion (16.2 percent lower year-on-year), while the imports stood at $2.97 billion (17 percent lower). The negative trade balance was $1.73 billion in January-May 2020 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 41.2 percent.
