Kazakhstan to expand medical masks production, including reusable ones

Kazakhstan is planning to launch four more face mask-producing ventures before the end of 2020, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Beibut Atamkulov said, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s prime minister.

Atamkulov said that production capacities are being increased in order to supply personal protective equipment to the local market.

He said currently the demand for medical masks across the country will be 111.2 million over next six months.

“Currently nine local enterprises produce 490,000 medical masks per day. To increase production volumes, four more new ventures are to be launched by the end of this year,” Atamkulov said.

Implementation of the projects will ensure production of up to 1.1 million masks per day. However having noted that the daily demand for masks is great, he said that launch of reusable masks production is also planned.

“In order to provide the population with the necessary number of masks, we plan to increase the production of reusable, preventive, protective masks up to 800,000 per day,” the minister said.

In turn, the need for medical gloves will be 83.7 million pairs over the same period. Currently, two Kazakh ventures produce 330,000 pairs of gloves per day. Production is to be increased to 460,000 pairs per day in the future.

Demand for protective suits will amount to 1.3 million pieces over next six months, In order to increase protective suits production volumes three new ventures will be launched by the end of 2020.

“We also plan to increase production volumes of existing enterprises. The measures taken will allow to increase protective suits production to 800,000 pieces per month,” Atamkulov said.
