By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Large Georgian producers of blueberries, including Blue Valley LLC, Blueberry LLC, Agrolane LLC, FCO LLC, as well as Agritouch, the owner of a refrigeration farm for storing and freezing berries, announced the creation of the Blueberry Council of Georgia, Trend reports via EastFruit portal.

According to Ekaterina Vepkhvadze, president of the Blueberry Council of Georgia, founder of Agritouch, said one of the main goals of creating this association is to promote the development of the industrial chain in the blueberry sector.

“The global demand for blueberries is growing dynamically, and the blueberry industry can become a source of income for many entrepreneurs and play an important role in the Georgian economy. The members of the Blueberry Council of Georgia can be both large and small farmers. We will organize trainings and conferences, invite leading experts, both local and foreign. We also hope that participation in the association will facilitate the production of high-quality products by small farmers and, accordingly, their sale. I want to emphasize that members of the association will have the right to enjoy all its intellectual and material benefits,” said Vepkhvadze.

According to her, the association will also protect the interests of producers and popularize Georgian blueberries both in the country and abroad.

According to the Georgian National Statistics Service (Geostat), the export of blueberries and other berries of the Vaccinium genus over the past 5 years in monetary terms amounted to $214,900 in 2015, $474,800 in 2016, $477,100 in 2017, $445,500 in 2018, and $984,700 in 2019.
