Volume of wheat purchased from farmers in Iran up

The volume of wheat purchased from farmers in Iran from April 4 to date (June 21) has increased by 4 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year, said Mohammad Taghi Tabatabaee, head of public relations department of Government Trading Corporation of Iran, Trend reports citing the corporation's website.

Tabatabaee noted that so far, 3.52 million tons of wheat has been purchased from farmers in Iran.

The official said that the value of purchased wheat was more than 89 trillion rials (about $2.11 billion).

Tabatabaee added that 1.2 million tons of wheat was purchased from farmers in Khuzestan Province, 670,000 tons in Golestan Province, 429,000 tons in Fars Province and 203,000 tons in Ilam Province.

According to the official, so far, 220,000 tons of rapeseed have been purchased from farmers in 25 provinces of Iran.

"The value of rapeseed purchased from farmers in Iran to date was 9.8 trillion rials (about $233 million)," he said.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products, are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
