The official stressed that $10 million have been spent on the manufacturing of cars in accordance with Euro 4 and Euro 5 to prevent environmental pollution.

Pourmojib added that it takes upgrading each product from the Euro 4 standard to the Euro 5 standard is expensive process and, for example, the calibration cost of each car is at least $300,000.

Iran Khodro Automaker Company (IKCO) manufactures 32 types of cars, according to the official.

"Iran Khodro has started the transition from Euro 4 to Euro 5 standards since 2018. Thus, Iran Khodro began mass manufacturing of Peugeot 206 hatchback in the 9th month of last Iranian year [November 22-December 21, 2019],” he said.

Pourmojib noted that currently, the only problem with introducing the Euro 5 standard by Iran Khodro compliance is related to gas-powered cars and pickups, and the company has developed programs to raise standards.
