About 4 billion rials (about $95,000) are needed to upgrade fish farms in the Bafq county of Yazd Province (central Iran), Director of Agriculture Department of Bafq county Ali Akbar Rahmatian told IRNA, Trend reports.
The director said that so far, 3 billion rials (about $71,000) have been spent on construction of 11 fishing farms in the county.
“With the commissioning of these facilities, fish production in the region will triple,” he added.
Rahmatian emphasized that sturgeon, trout, carp and others are grown in the existing fishing facilities of the county.
Rahmatian noted that it is expected to 250 kg of caviar and 30 tons of sturgeon were produced in the county in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020).
“Last year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), 110 kg of caviar and 22 tons of sturgeon were produced in the county,” he said.
