Uzbekistan’s mining and metallurgical complex obtains palladium through own technology

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 30

Trend:

For the first time in Uzbekistan and in the history of Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex JSC, seven kilograms 223 grams of refined palladium were obtained during one month – in June by using the technology developed by the specialists of the complex, Trend reports referring to www.uzdaily.uz.

The development of a method of producing refined palladium in the form of a powder was launched in the gold and silver refining workshop of the complex in November 2018.

At the same time, a completely new innovative technological scheme, consisting of 17 operations and a cycle time of not more than 24 hours (earlier this process took 72 hours and required the fulfillment of 56 operations) was proposed.

The cost-effective extraction was obtained from solutions with electrolytes with low palladium content, even up to 50 milligrams per liter with extraction of more than 80 percent. As a result, palladium in the form of powder with a mass fraction of 99.0 percent metal was obtained.

Taking into account a monthly forecast of two kilograms, from two kilograms to 2.2 kilograms were received in 2019. Some 28 kilograms of this rare precious metal were sold to consumers in 2019.

It is planned to obtain 91 kilograms till late 2020, that is, to increase the production volume by more than three times.

Presently, the specialists of the complex have a new task - to establish technology of producing palladium alloys from refined palladium.

This will allow to get products with high added value, as well as to locate new sales markets.
