Turkmen greenhouse plans to harvest large crop of bananas

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 6

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan’s Ferkhar company plans to harvest more than 60 tons of bananas from its greenhouse, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenportal Information Portal.

The harvested bananas will be sold in the markets of the country's Mary region.

The greenhouse is planting the 'Grand Nain' variety of bananas. So, from one tree with 6-meter length, 40-45 kilograms of bananas are collected daily. Banana is an exotic crop for Turkmenistan, and its seedlings were imported from Turkey.

First harvest of bananas was held last year in the same greenhouse, where almost 50 tons of bananas were collected.

There are other exotic fruits growing in Turkmenistan. For example, in the greenhouse of the Turkmen Agricultural University, fruits of exotic papaya were cultivated.

Reportedly, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. The main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable and fruits.

The development of agriculture is carried out on a scientific basis. Various types of agricultural crops are grown taking into account the agro-ecological characteristics of the country's regions.

In recent years, the country has increased the production of vegetables and fruits and enlarged the area of perennial plants, vineyards and greenhouses.
