The Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan will sign a contract with Russia’s Veya Investments Limited for the purchase of 14,000 tons of winter potato seeds, Trend reports with reference to the Business Turkmenistan information portal.
The corresponding decree was signed by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Friday in order to increase the efficiency of Turkmen agricultural producers.
The other aim of the mentioned decree is to implement a Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan of May 29, 2020 “On sowing in the velayats and growing in 2020 high yields of winter potatoes, vegetables and other agricultural crops”.
Thus, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan should ensure the cultivation of high yields of winter potatoes, vegetables and other crops on the allocated 21,000 hectares throughout Turkmenistan in 2020.
The ministry is also instructed to conclude agreements with tenants, land users and landowners on the purchase of manufactured products at a contractual price and timely settlements with manufacturers.
Agriculture is one of the most important branches of Turkmenistan's economy. The main types of agricultural crops are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable and fruit crops.
