Iran is working to increase the medical masks production to 10 million units per day, Iran's Acting Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Hossein Modarres Khiabani said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
According to him, the production of fabric masks is also in the spotlight.
The acting minister added that at present, Iran produces 3.5 million masks a day, while the production capacity is 6 million units per day.
Modarres Khiabani emphasized that Iran's production capacity of N95 masks is 500,000 units.
He noted that currently, 96 manufacturers produce masks in the country, and up to 40 of them were licensed before the spread of the coronavirus.
Iran continues to monitor the coronavirus situation in the country. According to recent reports by Iranian officials, over 257,300 people have been infected in the country, and 12,829 people have already died. Meanwhile, over 219,900 have reportedly recovered from the disease.
The country continues to apply strict measures to contain the further spread. Reportedly, the disease was brought to Iran by a businessman from Iran's Qom city, who went on a business trip to China, despite official warnings. The man died later from the disease.
The Islamic Republic only announced its first infections and deaths from the coronavirus on Feb. 19.
