Iran is expected to produce 11 million tons of corn in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), Executive Director of Iranian Company for Maize Development (ICMD) Ali Akbar Mahdavi told IRNA, Trend reports.
According to Mahdavi, about 300,000 hectares of corn have been planted in various provinces of Iran in the current Iranian year.
Mahdavi added that 10 million tons of corn will be taken as animal feed, and 1 million tons as poultry feed.
The director stressed that more than 8.5 tons of corn seeds and 50 tons of corn fodder and will be taken from per hectare land.
“The Khuzestan Province is one of the main centers for growing Iranian corn seeds and fodder,” he said.
About 400,000 tons of corn seeds and 1 million tons of corn fodder are harvested annually from 75,000 hectares in Iran's Khuzestan Province. It is planned to double this figure by 2025.
