BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 23

By Ilkin Seyfaddini - Trend:

Uzbekistan has begun modernizing the T-64 tanks at its production facilities, Trend reports with reference to the State Committee for Defense Industry of Uzbekistan.

"The production base of the Ministry of Defense's domestic armored repair plant has been overhauled and upgraded with the T-64 tank. In particular, the T-64 tank's 5TDF engine was replaced with a V-shaped B-84 engine, which increased its power by 140hp," the message said.

To protect the crew members, the tank hull was reinforced with additional armor and dynamic protective boxes. Communication equipment has been replaced by modern digital radio stations produced in Uzbekistan under the Hytera brand.

"The upgraded T-64MV tank was successfully tested by the customers. According to the test results, the T-64MV tank is not inferior to the T-72 (Soviet Ural tank) in some technical characteristics, such as engine power, the ability to overcome natural obstacles and firepower," the message said.

According to the Committee, now all T-64 tanks are being upgraded to the T-64MV level with subsequent re-equipment of their troops.
