Azerbaijan exported the fresh persimmons worth $26 million in the first half of 2020, Chairman of the Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association Gadir Yusifov told Trend.

The volume of persimmons exported during the reporting period amounted to 17,947 tons, noted Yusifov.

He added that the export volume of fresh persimmons dropped by 30 percent in the first six months of this year, compared to the same period of last year.

“The export price for each kilogram of fresh persimmons averaged $1.5 over the mentioned period, while the average export price for dried and frozen persimmons equaled $10. The price per kilogram of fresh persimmon in the domestic market of Azerbaijan was 2.5-3 manat ($1.4-1.7),” Yusifov stressed.

The chairman also noted that the fresh persimmons were exported in the indicating period mainly to Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and the UAE.

“We’re going to start exporting the persimmons to Slovakia, Czech and some European countries in the current year,” Yusifov said.

The Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association of Azerbaijan was created in August 2017 on the initiative of entrepreneurs and with the support of the Ministry of Economy.

The main objectives of the association are to increase the production of competitive and export-oriented products, as well as increase persimmon exports. Income from exports in 2019 significantly exceeded revenues for 2018, amounting to $114 million.
