By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

Azerbaijan’s export of peeled hazelnut increased by $200,000 in May 2020, compared to the same month of 2019, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Hazelnut Producers and Exporters Association Ismayil Orujov told Trend.

“In terms of value, the export of peeled hazelnut over the reporting month amounted to $8.5 million,’ noted Orujov.

From January through May 2020, Azerbaijani exported the peeled hazelnut worth $51 million, which is about 20 percent less compared to the first six months of 2019, the chairman said.

“The yield of hazelnuts in Azerbaijan amounted to 20,000 tons in 2019. The volume of exports since the beginning of the season amounted to 16,000 tons, and the remaining four tons were sold domestically,” he added.

“The sales of hazelnuts in the country’s domestic fell sharply, but this did not affect prices. During the period of a special quarantine regime, when all borders of the country were closed, Azerbaijani hazelnuts were exported to Russia and to some European countries. However, the prices of hazelnuts can be influenced by our competitor (Californian almonds) in foreign markets,” Orujov noted.
