Uzbekistan increases imports of alcohol, raw tobacco from EAEU countries

Uzbekistan has increased imports of strong alcoholic beverages from EAEU member countries by 3.8 times in the period from January through May 2020, Trend reports citing statistics of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

In total, Uzbekistan imported 3.2 million liters of strong alcohol in the amount of $7.6 million.

Kazakhstan and Russia became the main exporters of strong alcohol and raw tobacco to Uzbekistan.

Kazakhstan's share in alcohol exports amounted to $6.8 million, Russia's - $800,000.

Uzbekistan imported 922.276 tons of tobacco worth $1.5 million from the mentioned countries in the period from January through May 2020, which is more by 0.2 percent, than in the same period of 2019.

Kazakhstan's share in tobacco exports stood at $46,500, Russia's - $1.45 million.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan significantly reduced exports of tobacco products (only 24.1 percent of tobacco exports in the same period of 2019). In total, Uzbekistan exported 32,681 kilograms of tobacco products worth $330,495.

During the first five months of 2020, more than 4.1 billion cigarettes were produced in Uzbekistan which is 425 million fewer than in the same period of 2019.

Starting from August 1, 2020, permits for retail sale of alcoholic products in Uzbekistan, as well as the right to sell alcoholic beverages by public catering enterprises are issued for an indefinite period.
