Iran to export face mask production equipment

TEHRAN, Iran, Aug.6

Iranian Acting Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade said that although ran imported mask production equipment in the first days of the coronavirus outbreak, today, the country has become an exporter of the machinery.

“Iran was able to increase the daily production by 190,000 masks in early March and produces more than 11 million a day now,” Hossein Modarres Khiabani said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

“The clothing companies helped us to achieve this goal by changing their production lines,” he said addibng that more than 11 million face masks a day are produced by 46 industrial units and 135 workshops in the country.

The provinces of Tehran, East Azerbaijan, Alborz, Isfahan and West Azerbaijan are the top five provinces in the daily production of face masks in the country, respectively.

The export of face masks made in Iran is banned in July given a surge in the coronavirus cases and the growing demand for masks in the country.

The death toll from the novel coronavirus in Iran reached 17,802 cases; over the past 24 hours, the disease has taken the lives of 185 patients.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has risen to 317,483 following the detection of 2,697 new cases since noon of Aug. 4.
