Export Development Canada (EDC) corporation is seriously considering establishing and expanding cooperation with the government and financial institutions of Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing Dunyo News Agency.
This became known during negotiations between representatives of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Canada and the main representative for Eurasia of the corporation Darcy Ferron.
"The office of EDC in Istanbul will coordinate the Uzbek direction as well as assist in supporting Canadian companies planning to do business in Uzbekistan. Darcy Ferron stressed that the corporation has allocated $7.6 million to Uzbekistan over the past five years, mainly for the development of agriculture and mining industry, supporting eight Canadian companies and four small and medium enterprises," the report said.
During the meeting, the corporation representatives supported the Embassy's proposal to consider the possibility of implementing investment projects to organize meat production in Uzbekistan on the basis of advanced Canadian technologies. The Uzbek ambassador noted that in 2020 the country will implement 84 new projects in livestock breeding, as well as meat processing enterprises.
During the talks, the sides raised the issue of organizing a visit of a delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan to Alberta province, which is a leader in Canada in terms of beef production and exports, as well as the number of cattle.
“Following the meeting, the representatives of EDC expressed readiness to explore the possibility of establishing cooperation with Canadian companies interested in entering the Uzbek market and implementing business projects in Uzbekistan, as well as to organize joint online business briefings with their assistance to present investment projects in Uzbekistan among Canadian business circles,” the message said.
Export Development Canada was established in 1944 to support and stimulate foreign economic activity of Canadian companies. At present, the corporation is the main financial institution for development, providing export financing services to Canadian enterprises.
