The volume of wheat purchased from farmers in the Yazd Province (central Iran) has increased by 56 percent since the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season in Iran on April 4 to August 16, compared to the same period last Iranian year, director of Government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran’s branch in Yazd Province Hamid Paydar Ardakani said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

According to Paydar Ardakani, so far, 5,280 tons of wheat has been purchased from farmers in Yazd Province.

The director added that more than 101 billion rials (about $2.4 million) has been paid to wheat farmers, so far. This is 88 percent of the total value of wheat.

"In addition, 227 tons of rapeseed worth 11 billion rials (about $261,000) has been purchased from farmers in the Yazd Province," he said.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
