Large amount of Indian and Russian products will be transited through Iran, Deputy Minister for Roads and Urban Development and Executive Director of the Iran's Railway Company Saeed Rasouli said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
Rasouli stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has reached corresponding agreements with India and Russia.
The director added that 513 million tons of cargo was transported in Iran in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020). Of this volume, 208 million tons cargo was transported via railways.
The deputy minister noted that of the 208 million tons of cargo, 28 million tons was cargo of small volumes.
According to Rasouli, it is planned to transport 33 percent of cargo in Iran by railways.
"This indicator was the same in the last Iranian year, and work is underway to increase the figure. In addition, necessary steps are being taken to invest in Iran's railway sector," he said.
