Turkmenistan increases production in agro-industrial sector

The agricultural sector of Turkmenistan saw a 13.2-percent increase in production from January through July 2020, compared to the same period last year, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.

The statistical data were provided during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan held via videoconference.

In particular, from January through July 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan increased production by 14.2 percent, the State Water Management Committee - by 4.6 percent, and Turkmen atlary State Association - by 4.1 percent, compared to the same period last year.

Special attention is paid to growing cotton and sowing wheat for the next year.

It was decided to increase the area for planting potatoes, vegetables, melons and other agricultural crops, said the message.

Reportedly, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. The main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable and fruits.

The development of agriculture is carried out on a scientific basis. Various types of agricultural crops are grown taking into account the agroecological characteristics of the country's regions.

Special attention is paid to increasing the volume of products in Turkmenistan. As a result, in recent years, the country has increased the production of vegetables and fruit and berries and enlarged the area of perennial plants, vineyards and greenhouses.
