Geostat reveals Georgian external merchandise trade volume

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20

The external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $6.03 billion from January through July 2020, 17.6 percent lower compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

The exports equaled $1.75 billion (16.8 percent lower), while the imports stood at $4.27 billion (17.9 percent lower).

The negative trade balance was $2.51 billion in January-July 2020 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 41.7 percent.

From January through July 2020, the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 77.2 percent. The top-3 partners were China ($248.3 million), Azerbaijan ($230.7 million) and Russia ($229.1 million).

In the reporting period, the share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 69.5 percent. The top-3 partners were Turkey ($728.6 million), Russia ($473 million) and China ($379.3 million).

During the period from January through July 2020, the share of the top ten trading partners in the total external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 70 percent. The top-three trading partners were Turkey ($843.3 million), Russia ($702.1 million) and China ($627.6 million).
