On August 17, 2020, the workshop for packaging nicotine packs without tobacco at the UZBAT joint venture (British American Tobacco Group in Uzbekistan) cigarette factory in Samarkand began to operate, Trend reports referring to nuz.uz media portal.
Despite the situation related to COVID-19, and forced restrictions on international transport links, the factory continues to modernize and diversify its two enterprises in the Samarkand region.
UZBAT has invested $1 million in this project.
The investment contributed the creation of 75 new jobs provided mainly to the residents of the Farhod settlement in Samarkand. This is a significant event for the local community, given the rise in unemployment amid the socio-economic recession caused by the coronavirus.
According to one of the supervisors at the factory, Bakhtiyor Shukurov, all conditions have been created for the employees of the new workshop. Cooler and automatic sanitizers were installed in the shop itself for the convenience of the staff. E
"Employees are provided with free meals in the cafeteria of the Samarkand Cigarette Factory, tea and coffee, shuttle buses, as well as special uniform, footwear and personal protective equipment - respirators, gloves," he said.
