Iran expands red meat production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12

The volume of red meat production in Iran amounted to 37,100 tons in the 5th month of the current Iranian year (July 22-August 22), Trend reports citing Statistical Center of Iran.

According to the statistics, this is an increase of 2.5 percent compared to the 4th month of the current Iranian year (June 21-July 21).

"The production of beef and veal was 21,400 tons in the reporting period. The beef and veal accounted for 57.7 percent of total red meat production. As reported, Iran produced 20,400 tons of beef and veal in the fourth month," the statistics said.

In addition, 12,300 tons of mutton was produced in the 5th month. The mutton accounted for 33.2 percent of total red meat production. While in the 4th month, the volume of mutton production amounted 12,400 tons, the statistics added.

According to the statistics, the volume of goat meat production in the 5th month amounted 2,700 tons. The goat meat accounted for 7.3 percent of total red meat production in Iran. However, the goat meat production in the 4th month was 2,700 tons.

"The production of other animals’ meat in Iran amounted 669 tons in the 5th month and accounted for 1.8 percent of total red meat production," the statistics noted.

According to the statistic, the production of red meat in Iran increased by 41 percent in the 5th month of current Iranian year compared to the same month last Iranian year. Thus, mutton production increased by 35 percent, goat production by 29 percent, beef and veal production by 49 percent.
