About 90 percent of the value of purchased wheat in the Lorestan Province (western Iran) from the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season in Iran (April 4) to September 16, has been paid to the farmers, Director General of Government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran’s branch in Lorestan Province Hojjat Biranvand said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.
The director-general said more than 6 trillion rials (about $142 million) has been paid to the farmers so far.
He added that 287,700 tons of wheat were purchased from farmers in the province so far.
Biranvand emphasized that the purchase of wheat from farmers in Lorestan Province will continue until October 6.
The director-general noted that the annual wheat consumption of this province is 200,000 tons. The remaining wheat will be sent to other provinces of Iran.
“Also, 2,200 tons of rapeseed has been purchased from farmers in the province in the current season,” he said.
The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.
Several products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
