A total of 355.3 million tons of cargo was transported in Kazakhstan by all means of transport in Aug. 2020, which is 7.1 percent less than in Aug. 2019, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.
In turn, the volume of cargo transported over eight months of 2020 amounted to 2.4 billion tons, which is 7.5 percent less year-on-year compared to 2.6 billion tons over the same period of last year.
Thus, the majority of the cargo was transported in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region. The volume of cargo transported in the region amounted to 62.9 million tons in August and 454.5 million tons in over eight months of 2020, which is 21.3 percent and 14.8 percent less than during the same period last year, respectively.
Karaganda region is followed by the East Kazakhstan region with 61.3 million tons transported in Aug. 2020 (decrease of 0.2 percent compared to Aug. 2019). The volume of cargo transported in the region during the reporting period amounted to 403.4 million tons, which compared to 411.7 million during the same period last year, indicates a 2 percent decrease.
Kostanay region takes third place country-wide by the cargo transported in Aug. 2020 (30.1 million tons, up by 2.7 percent). The volume of cargo transported in the region over eight months of 2020 amounted to 184.4 million tons, which is 7.7 percent less than during the same period last year (199.7 million tons).
The least cargo volume was transported in the West Kazakhstan region. The transported cargo volume stood at 3.3 million tons of cargo in Aug. 2020, which is 5.4 percent less than in Aug. 2019. The volume of cargo transported over eight months of 2020 was 23.7 million tons, which is 4.7 percent less year-on-year.
