Turkmenistan, EU to create cooperation roadmap

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 23

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan and the European Union (EU) discussed the creation of a Roadmap for cooperation in priority areas such as energy, transport, trade, and education by the end of this year, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The discussions were held during a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and EU Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan Diego Ruiz Alonso on September 22, 2020.

The parties stressed the existence of a concrete basis for expanding and strengthening further cooperation. In particular, speaking about strengthening cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, trade, and education, the sides noted the need to increase the pace of implementation of joint plans and projects in these sectors and hold a meeting of representatives of relevant departments of Turkmenistan and structures of the European Commission to discuss promising projects and their further practical implementation in the autumn of this year.

As earlier the representative of the EU Delegation to Turkmenistan told Trend, Turkmenistan should be able to benefit from assistance in the European Union (EU) Framework for financial assistance from 2021 through 2027.

This framework is currently under discussion.

"The framework should provide the EU with the flexibility to support and cooperate with all partners no matter what their development level: from least developed countries to industrialized countries," the representative said earlier.
