It is forecasted that Iran's cotton production will increase by 18 percent to 270,000 tons in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 to March 21, 2021) compared to the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), said Director General of the Department of Cotton, Oilseeds and Industrial Products of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, Ebrahim Hezarjaribi, Trend reports citing the ministry’s website.
Hezarjaribi stressed that cotton is currently grown on 98,000 hectares of land in Iran, and this figure increased 8 percent compared to the last Iranian year.
The director general added the cotton to be produced can cover about 68 percent of Iran's consumption.
"In addition, it is estimated that Iran will cover its own cotton consumption and start exporting again after 5 years (from March 21, 2025 to March 21, 2026),"he said.
