Honey production in Azerbaijan increases significantly

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 16

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

More than 6 tons of honey was produced in Azerbaijan in 2020, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Beekeepers Association Badraddin Hasratov told Trend.

“Fresh honey is harvested up to four times a year - in May, late June, mid-July, and August. In 2019, this figure was 5,000 tons. Honey production increased by 20 percent,” Hasratov emphasized.

“Two years ago, the number of bee colonies in Azerbaijan was 200,000, and this year it has already reached 500,000. Productivity has also increased. If earlier we received 10 kilograms of honey from one bee hive, now the productivity has increased by 5 kilograms. At the end of May, we started extract the first honey in 2020, and this process continued until the end of August,'' the chairman said.

Touching upon the export of products, Hasratov noted that producers and exporters of honey had a large number of orders in April this year in the markets in Dubai, but delays in export-import operations caused export delays.

The Azerbaijan Beekeepers Association was established in early 2016. Currently, it unites 10,000 beekeepers and entrepreneurs in 50 districts of the country - 46 farms in districts and 4 farms in cities. The association is primarily aimed at the development of beekeeping, the solution of the current problems of beekeepers and the development of a general concept for the beekeeping development.
