A total of 46.1 billion tenge ($107.6 million) were allocated for the support of agriculture development in Kazakhstan’s Almaty region, including 40.6 billion tenge ($94.8 million) worth of subsidies, Trend reports citing the regional akimat.
The area for agricultural crops sowing was increased by 7,000 hectares and brought up to 969,000 hectares. The area for sugar beet reached 16,000 hectares, corn – 87,000 hectares, new orchards were laid on 1,200 hectares.
To date, the harvesting of grain crops has been completed, 794,000 tons of grain has been threshed (800,000 tons in 2019), about 1.9 million tons of vegetables and potatoes, and 133,000 tons of fruits have been harvested.
Some 500,000 tons of sugar beet are yet to be harvested and 50,000 tons of white sugar is to be produced. Together with investors, the modernization of sugar factories for processing raw cane is being carried out, which will ensure their year-round loading and by 2023 cover about 70 percent of the country's demand for white sugar.
Furthermore, to date, 24,500 tons of products have been harvested in greenhouse complexes of the Almaty region. A total of 101 greenhouses operate on an area of 101.1 hectares in the Almaty region.
