Georgia to issue agricultural loans to promote primary production of annual crops

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

In Georgia, agricultural loans will be issued in the amount of 200 million lari ($62.1 million) to promote primary production of annual crops, said Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Trend reports via Georgian media.

The state will finance interest for 20 million lari ($6.2 million).

According to the minister, to ensure food self-sufficiency in Georgia, it is important to grow annual crops, both grain, and vegetables.

“Perennial crops constitute a raw material base for processing enterprises. On-site processing of raw materials, as a rule, creates additional value in the country, provides employment for the population, provides additional income, and increases the export of products,” Davitashvili said.

According to the minister, the state launched a grant program in this segment, as a result of which a new modern intensive garden appeared in the country.

“We will continue this program, we will build a new garden of up to 5,000 hectares, for which we will spend more than 40 million lari ($12.4 million),” the minister said.
