Georgia expects increase in bread prices

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 29

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The issue of subsidizing wheat imports has become topical in Georgia due to the rise in grain prices on the global markets,Trend reports via Georgian media.

Experts say that the country will face the risk of price hikes at the end of November when the stock of grain purchased at relatively low prices runs out and the country will be forced to buy new batches at higher prices.

Prices on the global markets have increased on average by 30 percent since September and the government should take measures to maintain present prices.

“We had a meeting with the Prime Minister who said if wheat and flour prices continue growing on the international market causing price hikes in Georgia, the government will have to take measures to curb prices,” President of the Association Levan Silagava notes.
