Iran plans to boost trout production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 1

It is planned to grow 20,000 tons of trout in Iran over the next two years on the basis of contracts, said Isa Golshahi, the Director General of Seafood Quality Improvement, Processing and Market Promotion Department affiliated to Iran Fisheries Organization, Trend reports citing Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran.

Golshahi emphasized that 2,000 tons of trout are currently grown in Iran on the basis of contracts.

He added that the contracts were signed between trout farmers, some Iranian exporters, as well as representatives of client countries.

“The countries that want to buy trout from Iran prefer to buy trout due to some difficulties in the growing of this fish,” he said.

The director general stressed accordingly, Iran will acquire great improve in the production of fish and fishery products in the next few years.

Golshahi noted that the samples of 'sea bass' fish and 'shrimp' grown in Iran have been sent to various countries, and if the countries approve, these products will be exported to those countries under the contract.
