Trend:

Iran Fisheries Organization's Director General for Quality Improvement Isa Golshahi has announced that 20,000 tons of trout will be produced within the next two years, Trend reports via IRNA.

“The aquaculture contracts (the contracts for farming 20,000 tons of trout) are conducted between domestic trout fish farms and some exporters and representatives of foreign customers,” Golshahi said.

Referring to the possibility of conventional aquaculture for other domestically produced fish species he said that samples of fish farmed in the sea and shrimp have been sent to various countries that, if approved, will enter conventional aquaculture for those species too.

“One of the advantages of aquaculture contracts is that fish is raised with quality, size and technical points desired by the customer and is delivered at the appointed time," he said.

Golshani said that this method of production and sale will help the fish farms with an empty capacity or lack of liquidity, to revive their productions.

According to IRNA, last year (2019) 1.280 million tons of fishery products were produced by Iranian fish farms despite sanctions and the outbreak of the coronavirus.
