By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan is working on the gradual privatization of livestock farms, Trend reports with reference to “Turkmenistan: Zolotoy Vek” (Turkmenistan: Golden Age) newspaper.

The members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan have already privatized about 90 livestock farms.

In particular, livestock farms that are being built in the Akhal, Lebap and Mary regions, and poultry farms of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan that were built earlier in the Balkan and Mary regions were privatized.

Currently, more than 120 private livestock farms in the country produce meat and milk. In addition, 90 new farms are being built in Turkmenistan.

More than 28,000 hectares of land have been allocated to livestock breeders – members of Turkmen Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs for the production of forage crops, on which alfalfa, corn, barley, soy, sorghum and other forage crops are now grown.

Reportedly, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. The main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable and fruits.

The development of agriculture is carried out on a scientific basis. Various types of agricultural crops are grown taking into account the agroecological characteristics of the country's regions.

Special attention is paid to increasing the volume of products in Turkmenistan. As a result, in recent years, the country has increased the production of vegetables and fruit and berries and enlarged the area of perennial plants, vineyards and greenhouses.
