Iran discloses details of products purchased by Government Trading Corporation

The Government Trading Corporation of Iran (GTC) purchased 8.22 million tons of wheat worth about 208 trillion rials (about $4.94 billion) from farmers during the first six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2020), Trend reports citing the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran.

According to the report, the purchased wheat increased by 56.2 percent in terms of value and 6.6 percent in terms of volume during the reporting period compared to the same period last Iranian year.

“While in the same period last Iranian year, 7.71 million tons of wheat worth 133 trillion rials (about $3.17 billion) were purchased from farmers in Iran,” the report said.

Furthermore, 264,000 tons of oilseeds (such as rapeseed, soybeans, sunflower and etc.) worth 11.8 trillion rials (about $282 million) were purchased from farmers in Iran over six months,” the report noted.

According to the report, the purchased oilseeds decreased 2.7 percent in terms of value and 28.4 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

“Thus, 369,000 tons of oilseeds worth 12.1 trillion rials (about $290 million) were purchased from farmers in Iran in the same period last Iranian year,” the report added.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020).

The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
