Tomatoes make up majority of Turkmen vegetable exports

The main share in the export of Turkmen vegetables is occupied by tomatoes, Trend reports with reference to the Business Turkmenistan information portal.

Tomato exports account for 94.2 percent of total vegetable exports.

Various greenhouse complexes are being built to increase tomato production in the country. For example, a greenhouse in the city of Balkanabat was recently put into operation.

The greenhouse covers a total area of 5 hectares, 4 of which are planted 93,000 units of tomato seedlings. The first harvest is scheduled for the end of November.

In general, 32,000 tons of vegetables worth $34.9 million were exported for the first eight months of 2020.

Reportedly, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. The main types of crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable, and fruits.

The development of agriculture is carried out on a scientific basis. Various types of crops are grown taking into account the agro-ecological characteristics of the country's regions.

Special attention is paid to increasing the volume of products in Turkmenistan. As a result, in recent years, the country has increased the production of vegetables and fruit, and berries and enlarged the area of perennial plants, vineyards, and greenhouses.
