Expert assesses pros and cons of vehicles sale on Iran's Mercantile Exchange

TEHRAN,Iran,Nov.23

Trend:

Auto sales at Iran's Mercantile Exchange would cut the advantage of dealers and curb the rising prices, while the auto makers would have more profit and real consumers would have easier access to buying vehicles, said Iran's University of Science and Technology professor Amir Hassan Kakaei, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"Iran's current macroeconomic situation is not normal, offering cars at the exchange is not suitable for a normal situation but in current situation we are forced to do it," said Kakaei.

He went on to add that certain people have purchased vehicles at low prices and then re-sold them, gaining profits from 50-200 percent on the free market.

"So, the policymakers are forced to prevent further damage to the auto industry and cut the role of dealers," he said.

"Auto sale at mercantile exchange is one of the progressive ways to cut the dealers' influence on the market. The only current investment in the auto industry was a profit-sharing scheme, lottery registration, but auto trade on the mercantile exchange would have higher biding prices," Kakaei said.

"The buyers should also have certain conditions to be allowed to trade at the mercantile exchange that include real consumers that previously had no vehicles," he said.

"My prediction is that if the lawmakers and the government would tolerate the situation, the prices would be reduced and if the production problems and releasing imports would be resolved the market would balance," he said.
