Georgia sees increase in persimmon and caraway seeds export

Some 9,088 tons of persimmon and caraway seeds were exported from Georgia in the amount of $4.8 million from August 1 through November 29, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

The volume of exports of persimmon and caraway seeds during this period increased by 27 percent, and the value of exports increased by 31 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

During the same period, export prices for persimmons and caraway seeds increased by 3 percent.

This year, persimmon and caraway seeds were exported to the Russian Federation (4,004 tons), Ukraine (2,931 tons), as well as to Belarus, Qatar, Moldova, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, and Hungary.

Meanwhile, the export of persimmons from Georgia in monetary terms amounted to $2.1 million in October 2019. This indicator exceeds the total indicator of persimmon exports for the whole of 2018, which amounted to $1.9 million.

For the first 10 months of 2019, persimmons $2.3 million were exported. Persimmon exports increased both in monetary terms and in terms of weight. During 2018, 4,081 tons of persimmons were exported from Georgia, while in 10 months of 2019 – 4,591 tons.

Reportedly, the main suppliers of persimmons to the Georgian market are traditionally the regions of Kakheti (Eastern Georgia), Imereti and Samegrelo (Western Georgia), and Adjara.
