Exports of Iran’s agricultural products climbs

The exports of Iran's agricultural products increased by 13 percent in terms of value and 27 percent in terms of volume during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 20, 2020) compared to the same period last Iranian year, Deputy Director of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Mehrdad Jamal Arvanaghi said, Trend reports citing IRICA.

The deputy director emphasized that Iran exported 5.45 million tons of agricultural products worth $3.84 billion withing the reporting period.

“While in the same period last Iranian year, Iran exported 4.28 million tons of agricultural products worth $3.4 billion,” he added.

Arvanaghi noted that the exported agricultural products were mainly pistachios, tomato paste, watermelons, tomatoes, pistachio legumes and apples.

He also said that these products accounted for 1.52 million tons worth $1.31 billion of Iran’s total agricultural exports.

According to him, while in the same period last Iranian year, these products accounted for 1.42 million tons worth $1 billion of total agricultural exports.

The deputy director stressed that Iran exported 109,000 tons of pistachio worth $675 million in eight months, which is increased by 82 percent in terms of value.

“Also, Iran exported 10,000 tons of pistachio legumes worth $118 million during the reporting period. The exports increased by 37 percent in terms of value and 75 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year,” he said.

Arvanaghi added that Iran exported 175,000 tons of tomato paste worth $133 million in 8 months. Tomato paste exports increased by 49 percent in terms of value and 128 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

The deputy director noted 291,000 tons of apple worth $105 million were exported from Iran in eight months. The apple exports increased 55 percent in terms of value compared to the same period last Iranian year. Thus, 188,000 tons of apple worth $112 million were exported in the same period last Iranian year.

According to the statistics of the IRICA, Iran exported 75 million tons of goods worth $21.5 billion during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 20, 2020). Iran's exports decreased by 19 percent in terms of value and 14 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

In addition, Iran imported 21.8 million tons of goods worth $23.1 billion within 8 months of the current Iranian year.

Iran's imports decreased by 18 percent in terms of value and 1 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.
