By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Latvia sees potential for cooperation with Turkmenistan in various sectors such as science and education, transport and logistics, clean technologies and cleantech services, health care, business contact facilitation, to mention a few, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia told Trend.

“Latvian ports and rail links offer possibilities for expanding a bilateral transit corridor, as well as strengthening cooperation with Turkmenistan in the aviation cargo industry,” said the ministry, adding that Latvia welcomes the establishment of a bilateral Latvian-Turkmenistan working group on transport in the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission, which is an additional format for discussions on the further development of transport cooperation.

The other sector with a potential for cooperation was named Clean Technologies. Thus, as a message says, a Latvian clean technologies cluster, Cleantech Latvia, would certainly be interested to share the best Latvian clean technologies solutions as well as providing opportunities for training engineers and increasing competitiveness for associations and partners operating in this field.

“A similar project is being implemented with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Cleantech Latvia has representative offices in Almaty, and Tashkent, which serves as Cleantech Latvia knowledge hubs in Central Asia,” noted the ministry.

Also, Latvia is interested in continuing its cooperation with Turkmenistan in the field of science and education.

“We support the development of direct contacts between higher education and research institutions, including promoting the mobility of students, researchers, academic personnel, exchange of information and experience, as well as developing joint projects based on common needs and mutual interests. We also support cooperation between higher education and research institutions within the framework of UNESCO, European Union programs, and various international organizations,” noted the Latvian ministry.

Furthermore, the ministry added that Latvian pharmaceutical companies have an interest in delivering medical products to Turkmenistan.
