Uzbekistan, India to work on conditions for growth of mutual trade

Uzbekistan, India agreed on joint work to create favorable conditions for the growth of mutual trade, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister India Narendra Modi emphasized that the holding of an online event testifies to the achieved high level of the Uzbek-Indian relations of strategic partnership, as well as an opportunity to jointly identify new growth points for effectively overcoming the consequences of the pandemic.

As a benchmark in the trade and economic sphere, the parties set the task to achieve a trade turnover of $1 billion in the coming years.

Also, particular attention was paid during the meeting to the formation of efficient transport corridors and logistics infrastructure, the resumption of air traffic. And, the issues of promoting promising investment projects, including the involvement of advanced technologies, technical assistance, and concessional financing of leading Indian organizations, were considered as well.

Furthermore, agriculture, innovation, alternative energy, pharmaceuticals and health care, information and communication technologies, space research have been designated as priority areas.

In addition, the leaders agreed to expand interregional contacts on the example of the successful partnership between the Andijan region (Uzbekistan) and the state of Gujarat (India).
