Iran's Maku Free Zone to attract investment in agriculture

Maku Free Zone is targeting investment in the agriculture sector, said the Economic deputy of Maku Free Zone.

"There should be planning to develop this zone based on its potentials, Maku Free Zone is a progressive region in agriculture," Ebrahim Jalili told Trend in an interview.

Jalili went on to say that Maku Free Zone Organization has paid special attention to the agriculture sector in long term and short term targets since this sector is a macroeconomic hotspot in the current sensitive situation that would certainly lead to economic development.

"The most important problem for investors in the agriculture sector is permits and administrative bureaucracies, therefore, Maku Free Zone Organization is seeking to accelerate investment with cohesive management and issues permit for agricultural activities," he noted.

"The agriculture organization has provided a permit to change the function of farming lands that would accelerate the start of agriculture, industrial, and tourism businesses. It is expected that by operation of Karam Abad dam and attracting holdings and big agricultural companies there would be more modernized agriculture to an industry that could create more jobs," Jalili added.

According to him any planning in this regard would have a direct effect on agriculture activities and increase farmers awareness and using models of holdings and industrial cultivation would affect the quality of production in the region.

"Development of greenhouse farming, fish farming activities, and other modern farming would increase by use of water capacities and climate in Maku Free Zone. The organization seeks to provide primary infrastructures for attracting investment in this sector by looking at global market and export targets in production," he said.

Jalili also pointed out lack of process industries as one of the issues in the agriculture industry and the Maku Free Zone Organization should consider it in its planning with the precondition for investment in production.
