Mining, metallurgical complex to be constructed in Kazakhstan's Akmola

Kazakhstan’s RG Gold company has started detailed design engineering of a new mining and metallurgical complex to be constructed in the country’s Akmola region, Trend reports citing the company.

The company said total investment in the construction of the complex exceeds 160 billion tenge ($380.9 million), company’s shareholders are Kazakhstan’s Verny Capital and the US’ Resource Capital Fund. Kazakh industrial engineering design and construction company called AAEngineering Group has been awarded the EPC contract.

The future plant’s capacity is 5 million metric tonnes per year of primary ore. This summer, all the necessary preparatory earthworks have been done already. Construction will be completed by the 4Q2022.

The company noted that since 2014 almost 7 billion tenge ($16.6 million) have been invested in exploration. The precious metal reserves of company-operated Raygorodok deposit amount to 100 tons, whereas resources were estimated at 185 tons. The potential of the deposit is not yet fully discovered. Further exploration and investment activities are underway.

Seven public hearings have been conducted with residents of the Akmola Region, representatives of local executive authorities, and environmental activists over the entire CIP plant design phase. One more hearing is scheduled for December.
