Measures are being taken to further increase the volume of cotton production based on the rational use of land, water, agricultural machinery, and mineral fertilizers, and the quality of agricultural activities in Turkmenistan, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree ordering Turkmenistan's Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, municipal administrations of the Akhal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap, and Mary regions to perform a number of tasks in order to implement the above-mentioned goals.
According to the decree, it is necessary to ensure the production of appropriate volumes of cotton in the country in 2021, organizing the work of tenants, land users, and landowners at a high level.
It is also necessary to place cotton seeds in the districts, taking into account the soil and climatic conditions, according to the plan approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection.
In addition, based on the conclusion of contracts with cotton producers, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection is instructed to provide them with the necessary volumes of cotton seeds, technical services related to preparing land for sowing, sowing cotton, caring for crops, and harvesting cotton in accordance with agrotechnical standards.
The State Water Management Committee should provide producers with appropriate amounts of irrigation water, and Türkmenhimiýa State Concern – with appropriate amounts of fertilizers.
Reportedly, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. The main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable, and fruits.
The development of agriculture is carried out on a scientific basis. Various types of agricultural crops are grown taking into account the agro-ecological characteristics of the country's regions.
Special attention is paid to increasing the volume of products in Turkmenistan. As a result, in recent years, the country has increased the production of vegetables and fruit, and berries and enlarged the area of perennial plants, vineyards, and greenhouses.
