Construction of new railway terminal between Iran and Azerbaijan to be launched

The construction of a railway terminal between Iran and Azerbaijan in the Parsabad County of Ardabil Province (northwestern Iran) will be launched soon, the Governor of Iran’s Ardabil Province Akbar Behnamjoo said, Trend reports citing the governor office’s website.

The governor noted that a contract was signed on the construction of a railway terminal within the 14th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Iran Intergovernmental Economic Commission on the economic, trade, and humanitarian cooperation in Tehran.

Behnamjoo added that a map of the first 25 kilometers of the Ardabil-Parsabad railway line has been prepared and certain researches have been carried out.

“On the Azerbaijani side, 10 km of the railway will be renewed and a new 5 km long railway will be laid,” he said.

According to him, the exports of agricultural products from Iran's Ardabil Province to Azerbaijan, Russia, and Central Asia through the railway terminal will increase.

The governor stressed that greenhouse products grown on the 1,600 hectares of land, other agricultural and industrial products from Ardabil Province can be exported through this railway terminal.

Behnamjoo said that with the establishment of this terminal and a joint industrial park between the two countries, the investment opportunities in the region will increase.
