BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 7

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Iran will save 70 million euro with the domestic production of X-ray machines which are to be later installed at Iranian customs checkpoints, Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Mehdi Mirashrafi said in a press conference, Trend reports citing the ISNA.

Mirashrafi emphasized that 14 units of X-ray machines have been installed at Iranian customs checkpoints to date. However, more than 50 units of X-ray machines are needed still.

The director general added that the X-ray machines will be produced and supplied by the private sector of Iran. The IRICA consider the use of X-ray equipment for more precise control to be a priority.

Iran exported 94.5 million tons of goods worth about $28.1 billion during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through January 20, 2021). Iran's exports decreased by 20 percent in terms of value and 17.7 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

In addition, Iran imported 28.2 million tons of goods worth $30.6 billion over the reporting period. The imports decreased by 15.5 percent in terms of value and 2 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Iran prefers to increase domestic production in order to be self-sufficient in many areas and non-importing of equipment due to certain reasons, including, US sanctions against Iran, economic situation, the spread of coronavirus pandemic, and etc.
