Iranian government has taken its first steps to revive east of the country and transferred water from the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea to Sirjan settlement in Iran's Kerman Province, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The plan's cost is $3.8 billion, and water has been transferred from the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea to Sirjan," said Rouhani.

He went on to add that the project will continue as part of the transferred water will go through Sirjan towards Mes-e Sarcheshmeh in Kerman Province and then Ardakan in Yazd Province.

"The government would transfer water from the south of the country to Isfahan, South Khorasan and Khorasan Razavi provinces. The plans and studies have been completed and primary work is ready to begin," Rouhani said.

He also promised updates regarding the reviving of Urmia lake, as a special plan on the issue has been in the works for some time already.
